Getting started with Contrelle

If you’re feeling a bit daunted about using Contrelle for the
first time, that’s perfectly understandable. The good news is
that it’s actually straightforward to use – similar to inserting
a tampon, though it works in a very different way due to the
device’s unique design and soft bio-synchronised polymer. Like
anything new, it may take a little practice at first. If you
have any questions or concerns, our support team is
available to help.

Device preparationn

Contrelle comes in three sizes. If you are a first-time user, start with Size One.

Wash your hands, and carefully tear open the packet. Don’t use scissors.

Saturate the device before use. Hold under running water and squeeze about 10 times for roughly 30 seconds. When fully saturated, the device will look smooth and increase in size. If dimpled or misshapen, continue squeezing under water until smooth. You can’t over-saturate.

Contrelle is inserted using a re-usable applicator. Place the string at the bottom of the applicator near the grooves, then gently slide the foam device onto the top.

Inserting Contrelle

Use a water-based lubricant to ease insertion – recommended for at least the first few uses. Apply at the vagina entrance.

Position Contrelle at the vagina entrance with the foam wings front to back, not side to side. Slowly insert until the bottom of the wings are 2-3cm from the entrance.

Once comfortably positioned, ease the string off the applicator and withdraw the applicator from the vagina. The device string remains outside the body.

Wash your hands and the applicator with soap and water.

How do you know which size to use?

Once in place, spend 30 minutes doing activities that normally trigger leaks. The device should feel comfortable with little or no leakage, and shouldn’t move.

If you leak, try pulling the strings to slightly lower the device position.

If leaking or movement continues, try size 2. If issues persist with size 2, try size 3.

Finding the right position for Contrelle within the vagina may take a few tries. The device supports the bladder neck, the depth of which varies for every woman, so the optimum position differs for each individual.

Removal of Contrelle

Contrelle can be worn for up to 16 hours. Always remove it before going to bed.

Use a water-based lubricant for at least the first few removals – apply inside the vagina to ease the process.

To remove, pull the strings together with your hand as close to the vagina entrance as possible. Pull gently and slowly.

Contrelle is single use. Dispose of in household waste. Wash your hands.

What can I do if the device keeps slipping?

If the device is slipping:

  • Use a water-based lubricant on at the vaginal opening rather than on the product. Make sure you only use water-based lubricants.
  • Try a larger or alternative size.
  • Try inserting the product slightly higher.
  • If using vaginal oestrogen cream, gel or suppository, wait a few hours prior to inserting the device.
What can I do to make inserting the device more comfortable?

If you are struggling with comfort:

  • Try sitting on the toilet and inhaling to relax the pelvic floor muscles during insertion.
  • Use a water-based lubricant.
  • Ensure you have started with the smallest size.
What should I do if the device doesn’t seem to be effective once inserted?

If the device is not working:

  • Draw the device slightly lower so that it sits only just above the pelvic floor muscles and is not pushed in as far as a tampon.
  • Try inserting the device slightly deeper.
  • Try a larger or alternative size.

You could stop your bladder leaks. Immediately. Try Contrelle today.

Clinically proven to be safe and effective.2
